TRANSPORT Under Secretary Reginald Eyre has reassured MPs that metropolitan transport authorities will be able to use their reserves to buy new buses.
Speaking as the Transport Bill completed its passage through the Commons, Mr Eyre assured worried MPs that the protected expenditure limits set out in the Bill would not affect capital investment.
Opposition MPs had claimed that if the transport authorities and executives were to use accumulated reserves to buy new buses to replace existing stocks, then the Government would reduce the subsidy allowed to spend on fares.
