IN July of this year it is likely that the 1 Belgian Parliament will pass a statute which will introduce early in 1966 a roadhaulage licensing system closely modelled on the one at present in force in the Netherlands. Under the Dutch system. an applicant for a licence is required to pass a written examination in such sub. jects as accountancy, commercial knowledge and road-haulage law. He must also satisfy the licensing board of his financial stability by giving proof that for each ton claimed he has deposited.in his bank a certain number of guilders.
An applicant who wishes to engage in international haulage must pass an even higher standard of examination, involving a knowledge of the geography of the countries to which he wishes to travel and some grasp of the taxes and regulations operating in those countries.
