received a preliminary report from an engineering research centre which agrees with the earlier Government report.

Both reports agree that explosions have been caused by subsidence which in turn is caused by heavy lorries using unsuitable roads.

Last year the report published by the Department of Energy recommended that heavy vehicles should be restricted to special routes and not allowed to use roads which contain gas mains.
