Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

What to do with scrap tyres often causes a headache these days. but a company with one solution to the problem is the Grantham Rubber Machinery Co Ltd, recently appointed sole agent in the UK for the Peter Menzenbach tyre incinerator.

Instead of burning tyres to waste, this unit utilizes the heat generated to provide steam or hot water—and with such efficient combustion that little air pollution is caused.

One of the larger units can manage 20 to 70 truck tyres-50 to 200 car-sized types—an hour and features a rotary combustion drum continuously turning the burning tyres until all combustible material is destroyed. The residue is ash—a simple disposal problem.

A high-capacity unit also has a gas lock which permits tyres to be fed into the incinerator without permitting the escape of smoke.

All of the smaller units can, if desired, be supplied without heat utilization; the smallest units can dispose of six to 12 tyres an hour.

Further information is obtainable from Grantham Rubber Machinery Co Ltd, PO Box 24, Gonerby Hill Foot, Grantham, Lincs, (telephone Grantham [0476]4926 and 4997).
