A THREE-YEAR investigation into applications is in progress at the Association. (PERA).

According to PERA the project has the support of engineering companies, the Department of Industry and adhesive manufacturers, and is still open to other companies wishing to participate.

Existing and potential users of adhesives within the engineering industry who are participating contribute information about industrial applications, which is of particular interest to the companies.

This information enables users' requirements to be defined and areas of common interest to be identified.

PERA claims that the resulting data will ensure that the project work relates directly to the requirements of the end user with the aim being to produce practical results of direct benefit to the industry.

A wide range of industrial applications has already been explored including gearboxes, turbines, pumps and others concerned with motor vehicles.

PERA says that searches of published information have revealed little which would be of direct interest to designers wishing to incorporate adhesive joints engineering structures.

This has resulted in these deficient areas being identified and adhesive bonding for engineering Production Engineering Research fundamental investigative work initiated.

Engineering companies wishing to join the project can do so for a fee of £300 plus vat, which covers a one-day-visit by a PERA specialist to the companies to define their interests.
