AN unopposed Contract A licence application I-1by Mr. A. F. Hutt, of Glenfarg, has been refused by the Scottish deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. L. A. Wells, at Perth, because the rates payable under the agreement were too low.
Mr. Hutt sought to carry for Collissie Sand and Gravel Co. but Mr. Myles, appearing for the applicant, produced a fresh agreement with the principal named as Dreit Construction Co. Ltd. No such firm as Collissie Sand existed, said Mr. Myles.
Questioned by Mr. Wells, Mr. Hutt said he had not looked into the operating costs of the single vehicle involved. The Dreit Construction witness said the rate per ton paid recently had been 7s.. and the vehicle would be employed in the main on work involving a 70-mile round trip. The 10-ton-capacity vehicle could only do four journeys per day.
Mr. Wells was not satisfied that the vehicle could be economically operated under the agreement and refused the application.
