BAR GES are being used instead of lorries by Shell-Mex and B.P., Ltd., to transport lubricating oils from their Stanlow refinery to the Midlands. Normally about 30 tons of oil are distributed by road daily from Stanlow to the Midlands. Now, drums are taken from the refinery to the Shropshire Union Canal at Chester by "road and carried by barge down to Wolverhampton, whence final delivery is made by the usual hauliers.
Ten barges are being employed to deliver about 50 tons of oil to Wolverhampton every other day.
Many gallons of vehicle fuel are saved by this method.
