AT the end of 1956 there were 206,811 oil-engined commercial vehicles in use in this country---16.2 per cent, of the total. In that year. 38,984 oilers, or 25.4 per cent, of total new vehicles, were registered for the first time.

The number of trams in Great Britain dwindled last year to 2,043 from the 1955 figure 01 2,331. It is estimated that goods vehicles Covered 10,969m. miles last year and carried 904m. tons. The respective figures for C-licence operation were 8,347m. vehicle-miles and 540m. tons. •
