SO many transport firms are allowing their drivers to take their vans and lorries home and leaving them parked overnight on grass verges and on the roads that the Derbyshire County Council bridges and highways committee has called in the police to tackle the problem.
In a report to the Council last week, the committee revealed that the police
had been asked specially to prosecute if necessary to prevent the practice. The report added that commercial undertakings should be able to provide proper accommodation for their vehicles and to conduct their affairs in such a way that drivers were neither required nor permitted to take their vehicles to their homes.
