AT a meeting in Leeds on Monday of the Passenger Vehicle Operators Association a recommendation by Mr. J. T. Steel, of Holmfirth, the national chairman, was unanimously approved. It stated: " Should the Chancellor of the Exchequer insist that the 6d. per gallon increase in taxation on fuel used by public service vehicles be applied, an application should be made to the Traffic Commissioners for an increase in fares on all services which' are subject to the tax.
"An increase in charges should he made on all school contract coaches: all workmen's contract coaches; all holiday services and all coach hire affected by the increases.
" The public will then be aware that the responsibility for these . increases lies fairly and squarely on the Chancellor of the Exchequer."
