ANEW tipping gear fro Telehoist, of which the first example has been fitted on a Seammell Mountaineer 4 by 4 chassis, incorporates double-extension double-acting rams giving powered return of the body to the chassis during the tipping cycle. Tipping time in this case is 10 see, and the return movement takes 7 sec.
An important feature of the gear is an over-run damping device which comes into operation prior to the rams being fully extended. This is intended to overcome the problem created by the tendency for wet materials to cling inside the body during tipping. The entire load can gain considerable momentum as it moves suddenly down the body floor and hits the angle of the scow, normally tending to create snatch on the tipping gear. Nylon wear strips are provided on either side of the main ram seals to prevent metal to metal contact between the bore of the rain tube and the piston of the inner tube.
