ASPECIAL committee of Matichester Chamber of Commerce, which has been examining the Transport Bill, has expressed its fears that the 25-mile.litriit on the operations of hauliers will restrict the transport of goods for export, from Manchester and other Lancashire towns to Liverpool. A radius of 100 miles is recommended.
The longer time occupied in rail 'transport would interfere with the ability of manufacturers to provide the normal speed of shipments, says the committee. Premature diversion of traffic to the railways, which, are already overburdened, would be disastrous. The committee urges that C-licensees should be allowed to operate freely and should be permitted to obtain vehicle licences on demand.
