WITH recent lorry sales in the U.S. W highly encouraging, manufacturers generally arc predicting that more than a million vehicles will be sold this year, as against 910,000 last year. The present buoyant market, especially in heavy-duty lorries, is regarded as an indication of confidence among hauliers.
Ford Motor Company expect to sell 324,000 lorries this year and expect that 1963 sales may well exceed this total. Dodge sales are currently running 18 per cent higher than in 1961, while International Harvester, GMC, Truck and Coach, White Motor Co. and other producers are all showing excellent gains.
Improved Chevrolet and Ford models for 1963, soon to be introduced, are expected to stimulate sales. Chevrolet is featuring improvements in engines, suspension and frames, while Ford is "bringing the economies of diesel power" to its delivery vans with two new "city size" diesels and is adding a complete new, line of conventional lorries in 114 medium, heavy and extra-heavy-duty models.
