State and New Jersey are to apply to the U.S. Inter-State Commerce Commission for authority to raise carriage charges by 15 to 20 per cent, following wage increases.
A settlement between the Teamsters' Union and the haulier gives drivers a 37 per cent hourly increase in wages and benefits. Drivers will now get the equivalent of about £1 2s. per hour.
