NLOP this week announced the first of a new range of ?I-braced radial tyres — the SP311.
'he company claims that all-axle SP311 combines g life and reliability with isiderable fuel savings. It is igned for both goods and ;senger-carrying vehicles -ticulariy for long-haul operation and is initially available in 1000R20, 1100R20, 11R22.5, 12R22.5, with 10R22.5, 1200R20, F20 and 13R22.5 to follow.
The SP311 has a single centre channel with two unsup ported ribbed edges, as opposed to four ribbed edges in conventional twin-channel designs. This gives even wear in the centre of the tread, longer tread life and consequently a lower cost per mile, says Dunlop.
The tread design reduces the rolling resistance which, according to Dunlop, brings a fuel saving of two to three per cent over its imported competitors.
The designers claim they have achieved a 15° to 20°C cooler running at recommended load, pressure and speed. The SP311 employs a new mould design which reduces stress in the breaker edge and shoulder areas of the casing.
