of industry regarding transport problems associated with heavy and abnormal loads of large engineering equipment, the heavy-engineering industries represented by several. of their organizations have, jointly with representative specialist carriers, instituted the Abnormal Loads Committee.
Through joint consultation and in co-operation with road, rail and sea interests, it is hoped to collate and make known such authoritative information and opinion that will facilitate the future transport of special items of this nature for home and export contracts, both aspects being vital in the national interest. The committee will also be available as a consultative and, where necessary, a negotiating body.
This joint approach to what is a national problem should greatly contribute to the better utilization of existing transport facilities and exert major influence in the development and design of future transport equipment and ancillary installations and services.
