Trucks Inc. of America and the Government of Pakistan reported in The Commercial Motor of January 11, goes much further than the building of a commercialvehicle factory. A partnership agreement now signed gives Mack "the right to furnish all " commercial vehicles over 6,000 lb. (2.68 tons) g.v.w. which Pakistan will purchase for the next 10 years. Under the terms of the contract Mack will probably build 1,200 vehicles for sale in Pakistan this year. 2,000 next year and between 3,000 and 4,000 in future years. The contract also calls for the production of buses and off-the-road vehicles.
The agreement means, in effect, that Mack will establish a commercial-vehicle industry in Pakistan. The manufacturing plant referred to in the earlier report is' to be set up in Karachi. It will be jointly owned by the Government of Pakistan, Mack and private Pakistani investors.
