A WARNING against complacency on the part of C-licensees was given by Major H. E Crawfurd, A.F.C., vicepresident of the National Road Transport Federation, at a meeting in High Wycombe, last week. He said that the Trades Union Congress had foreseen•that a nationalized transport industry
would never withstand the competition of those who were able to run their own vehicles. For that reason, the Transport Bill was originally designed to include the C-licensee.
"The overwhelming force of public opinion his compelled the Minister to make a nominal withdrawal of those clauses," said Major Crawfurd, "but in doing so he uttered a threat that if this withdrawal was abused, the Government would take steps to put the matter right.
"The use of the word ' abuse ' means that the freedom offered to the C-licensee is illusory If the freedom is conferred, then the Bill is worthless, because the Government organization will be bank rupt in 18 months." . .
