THIRTY-SIXquestions bri transport figured in a quiz at the Yorkshire Transport Society's March meeting, at Bradford.. Mr. Stanley. Denton (hon. secretary) and Mr. Charles Bragg (chairman) compiled the questions.
A •parlicularly interesting point was raised in this question: " At least two very important transport undertakings in England now modify. their • internal organizations to ,suit the ability Of then senior officers, as against the accustomed practice of making the abilities of senior officers suit the organization. Can you' name one of these under takings? " • ,
• The answer;"London Transport," or " British Overseas Airways Corporation," gained three marks.
A questIon with a Yorkshire flavour asked what common relationship exists between the Todmorden, Halifax and Huddersfield municipal' passenger transport undertakings. The answer was that the three municipalities are each partners in joint bus committees, on which the 'L.M.S. Railway Co. is represented.
As to which company undertakings operate trolleybuses in England, the Mexborough and-Swinton Traction Co. and the South Lancashire Transport Co. were quickly cited, but nobody couid name the three others in the list—Llanelly District Traction Co.. Hastings Tramways Co„; and Nottinghamshire _and Derbyshire Traction Co.
SHEFFIELD FARES UP*
APPROVAL has been :given by the Ministry of Transport to Sheffield Corporation's proposals to increase fares on its tramcar and motorbus services. The increases, which include the abolition of the penny fare and establishment of a lid. minimum, will operate from April 1.
