ENGLAND is in the grip of insurrection. A Yorkshire schoolcrossing warden has refused to brandish her lollipop in her right hand as prescribed. In more robust days she would at least have been treated to the ducking stool and might even have been burnt at the stake as a witch. As it is, she has been allowed to escape merely with the loss of her job.
Like a German joke, this is no laughing matter. Is not the English royal motto "God and my right"?
To allow mutinous left-handed lollipop wielding would be the thin end of a sinister wedge. It would be playing into the hands of the Militant Tendency. Before you could say Andropov or something equally unpleasant the monarchy would have been abolished and President Scargill would have proclaimed his motto, "Me and my Left."
