Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QIIELL refineries in Britain are turn ing out oil products at the rate of 81m. tons a year. This was announced last week by Mr. C. M. Vignoles, 0.B.E., managing director of Shell-Mex and B.A., Ltd., when he opened a modern grease plant at Barton, Manchester. Shell's post-war refinery expansion programme is being carried out well within schedule and it is claimed that the undertaking is the largest refiner in the country.

The programme comprises the construction at Shell Haven, Essex and Stanlow, of fully, integrated modern

refineries in addition„to the specialized plants which were already in operation before the war. The combined capaciiy of the old refineries was just over Urn. Ions a year—a figure which has been raised to Om. since the first of the new units came on stream in November, 1949.

Taking into account the Qin. tonsa -yea r refinery at Heysham, Lancs. acquired from the Government in 1947, Shell's total refinery capacity in the United Kingdom is now 81m. tons, an almost three-fold increase in under two years.
