EXPERIMENTS with a type of hollow . kerbstone, emitting a horizontal light on to the road surface, which should prove a real help to motor users and pedestrians—if pedestrians will observe the Highway CckIe—have been made in Heighley. Designed by the town's electrical engineer, Mr. H. Webber, the kerbstones have been installed at a pedestrian crossing on Station Bridge to minimize, so far as possible, blackout traffic problems, Electric bulbs fixed on a bar in the kerbstone give motor users and pedestrians an indication of the presence of the crossing.
