riOACH and bus firms, hauliers and other operators of large vehicles in Somerset are being asked to consider fitting traffic indicators on their vehicles. The request is being made by the Somerset County surveyor at the request of the County Road Safety Committee, which has been considering the large number of accidents in which the cause is said to be "turning right without due care."
At the last meeting it was stated that a large number of public service vehicles and haulage vehicles are not equipped with traffic indicators. The county council is having all its own older vehicles fitted with indicators and all the new ones are already fitted with modern signalling devices.
A county council spokesman said that the response to the request has been very encouraging.
