BE Fit for the Road " is the theme of a six months' campaign launched this month by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. It is the Society's largest and most intensive campaign and to back it there has been produced an excellent series of pamphlets dealing with safety straps, braking' and steering, first aid, cycling, commercial driving, eyesight and alcohol.
At a Press Conference last week to launch the campaign emphasis was laid on the value of safety belts and the dangers of drink while driving.
The front passenger seat in all vehicles was described as the "suicide seat' because in an accident; or on sudden braking, the passenger could be relaxed and unaware of whet was about to happen.
A special pamphlet, " Searchlight on Drink," has been produced to deal with the effect of alcohol on drivers and it lays down the golden rule for everyone, "If driving do not drink; if drinking do not drive."
