are over one ton unladen, are fitted with a hand-brake and a telescopic automatic brake —both are fitted with sewage plant models permanently fixed to the vehicles for dis play and demonstration. The third vehicle is fitted only with a handbrake and weighs approximately IOcwt. It is used to collect sludge samples from Sewage works. Do any of these vehicles need to be plated and tested?
A Paragraph 16, Schedule 2, of the Goods Vehicles (Plating and Testing) Regulations 1971, exempts trailers from the requirement to be plated and tested if they have no brakes other than parking brakes and brakes which automatically come into operation on the overrun of the trailer. On this basis alone none of your trailers needs plating and testing.
However, a further exemption is contained on paragraph 15 for vehicles carrying permanent fixed equpiment for display purposes only. In addition Regulation 4(e) requires only trailers which exceed one ton unladen weight to be subject to the Regulations,
