MINE special ambulance bodies built on Austin 25-cwt. chassis by 1 Marshall Motor Bodies, Ltd., Airport Works, Cambridge, have recently been supplied to the Crown Agents for operation in Ceylon. Of all-metal construction, the bodywork is a combination of steel framework and aluminium panelling. Aluminium chequer plate forms the floor. The interior lining is of Holoplast with Fibreglass insulation.
A convertible seat and stretcher locker on the off side can accommodate six patients or a stretcher, and two more stretcher cases can be carried on the near side. Among the features are a wash basin, two electric fans, two large roof lamps and four combined intake and extractor ventilators. A water tank fitted with a pump on the off side feeds the basin.
The doors can be secured flat against the sides of the ixicly to afford a fullwidth entrance at the rear. A folding step which, when not in use, is recessed into a central well, is provided. The spare wheel is carried underneath it.
