XAMPLES of the two rear-engined p.s.v. chassis made by Daimler can be seen on this stand, but whilst the Roadliner SRC 6 single-decker is shown with a body the Fleetline SRG 6 is featured as a chassis only.
Both models are to the latest design and the Roadliner, _which has a 36 ft.long 50-seat body by Marshall of Cambridge for stage-carriage work, will show how the chassis design allows a step-free gangway in its full length. The Cummins V6 200 b.h.p. engine is located below the, rear passenger seat and this drives forward through a Daimatic semi-automatic transmission to the rear axle.
The Fleedine is becoming increasingly popular with bus operators and the chassis also has Daimatic transmission. The Gardner 6LX engine used in the design is mounted transversely at the rear and the drive from the gearbox is taken to one side of the dropped rear axle. Because of the rear axle design, a level gangway is possible for the full length of the vehicle.
On the demonstration park there is another Roadliner to the same specification as that inside Kelvin Hall, but this has Duple Commander coach bodywork.
