Stand 85—Renault Ltd., Acton, London W3.
OFthe three Renault commercial vehicles on this stand the latest is the 1-ton version of the Estafette high-roof van which was introduced only last month. The two other exhibits are Fourgon 6 cwt. vans.
The 1-ton version of the Estafette was described in The Commercial Motor, October 29, and only the high-roof van is available in this form. The wheelbase is increased from 7 ft. 5..3 in. to 8 ft. 8 in. compared with the standard Estafette. This gives an increase in cubic capacity from 215 cu. ft. to 274 cu. ft. The same four-cylinder 1,108 c.c. petrol engine is used, which produces 45 b.h.p. gross at 4,500 r.p.in. and 65.8 lb. ft. gross torque at 2,200 r.p.m. But there is a difference in the transmission, both the final-drive ratio and gearbox ratios being changed slightly
although the same general design is used. The braking system on the 1-tonner has a special-limiting valve in the rear-brake hydraulic line which varies the braking according to the load being carried.
An important feature of both the Estafette and Fourgon 6 cwt. design is that the use of a front-wheel-drive layout gives a very low floor height. Both models have independent suspension at all wheels.
