THE programme for the 10th Congress of the International Road Transport Union (1RU), an event which is to be held in London next year for the first time, has been approved in Geneva. The joint hogs for this important gathering are the Road Haulage Association, the Traders Road Transport Association and the Passenger Vehicle Operators Association (the national bodies for the three • WU sections: professional haulage, own-account goods transport, and passenger transport). The TRTA is providing the secretariat, and Mr. R. E. G. Brown is congress secretary. Delegates will assemble at conference headquarters, the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, WI, on Sunday, June 5, and the presidential executive will meet at 10 a.m, on the next day. The opening session is at 3 p.m. on the Monday.
Three sections will meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, and the Council of Direction will convene that afternoon: there will then follow a plenary session of delegates on Wednesday morning and the closing session will be at 9.30 a.m. on Thursday.
Official functions and social events have been arranged. For example, on the Monday evening there is to be a reception by HM Government at Lancaster House, on Tuesday evening the Corporation of London will be the hosts at Guildhall, and on Thursday evening the end of the conference will be marked by a banquet. For delegates' ladies and guests there will be sightseeing and river trips. Agendas for the working sessions have not yet been fixed, and the number of delegate is not known exactly, but at the last congress, in Cannes, there were about 20.
