T"Minister of Labour, Mr. Ray Gunter, has announced the setting up of the Motor Industry Joint Labour Council under the chairmanship of Mr. A. J. Scamp. The decision to set up the Council was agreed in principle after meetings between the Prime Minister, the Minister of Labour and representatives of managements and trade unions in the industry.
Detailed proposals made for the functioning of the Council in the report of a working group set up following the last meeting have been approved by the Minister of Labour and by the management and union representatives who attended earlier meetings.
The Council will consist of, in addition to the chairman, six representatives from each side. They are:— Representatives of management; Mr. L. T.
Blakeman (Ford Motor Cn. Ltd.): Mr. B. L. Mackie (British Motor Corporation); Mr. K. T. Chapman (Pressed Steel Co. Ltd.); Mr. R. R. Hopkins (Vauxhall Motors Ltd.): Mr. E. Richards (Royer Motor Co. Ltd.); Mr. J. P. England (Rootes Motors Ltd.).
Representatives of trade UtliOM: Sir William Carron and Mr. H. P. Scanlon (Amalgamated Engineering Union): Mr. A. Roberts (National
Union of Vehicle Builders): Mr. G. H. Doughty (Draughtsmen's and Allied Technicians Association); Mr. L. R. I:miry (Transport and General Workers' Union): Mr. H. G. Barratt (Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions).
Yale-Eaton Merger: Yale and Towne is to he merged into the Eaton Manufacturing Co. Ltd., of which it has been for nearly two years a wholly owned subsidiary. The name of the surviving corporation is to he Eaton Yale and Towne.
E range of goods vehicles available from Dodge Bros. (Britain) Ltd. has been extended into the medium-weight class by the inclusion of a number of Comnter models. This is the first major step taken in the amalgamation of model ranges in the Rootes Group since Dodge joined it earlier this year.
Types involved are Walk-Thru 30 cwt., 2and 3-ton vans and 4-. 5-, 6and 7-ton forward-control goods chassis. Dodge
model designations given to the Walk Thm vans are KB200. KB300 and KB40( respectively for the three nominal tom capacities, whilst the four goods chassi are designated the K400, K500, K600 am K700 respectively.
With the added types, the Dodge rang now extends from the Walk-Thru to th three-axle rigid and two-axle tractiv units in the recently introduced 500 Serie which have gross ratings up to 24 tons.
