I AST month the chairman of the Auto -La mobile Association, Viscount Brentford, wrote to the Prime Minister protesting against the cut-back in the roads programme and pointed out that the casualty figures for 1965 would he the worst on record. He posed the question: " How many people would the Government consider it necessary to sacrifice by death and injury in the hope of strengthening the national economy?'
The Minister of Transport, replying on behalf Of Mr. Wilson. defended the cutback policy and said that the Government was no less concerned about the mounting toll of road accidents and was playing its part in tackling the problem. The Minister said that over the period 1965-70, public expenditure planned on the roads programme would be some £1.200 in. and "the deferment for six months of £55 m. worth of road schemes must be seen against this background
Scots Tender for East Germany : The coachbuilding firm of A. C. Penman Ltd. has submitted a tender to supply 125 articulated lorry trailer bodies to the East German Government. The order is worth more than £2511000.
