QHORT of staff, and needing all their s--) available vehicles for the evening peak, Leeds Transport Department found that it would be unable to provide its normal service to the Leeds United versus Stoke City football-match last week, so the Yorkshire Licensing Authority granted a special licence to Wallace Arnold Tours, Ltd., to run the . service.
With the addition of hired vehicles, Wallace Arnold ran up to 16 coaches before the match and 13 afterwards, by which time the transport department had 20 buses and 20 trams available.
The corporation undertaking normally provides up to 30 double-deck buses for these matches, but only eight could be spared to carry people to the ground.
It was thought to be the first time that such a licence had been granted.
