Single Deck Bus. Tip Wagon.

K Type Lorry. Chassis.

STAND No. 27.

VEHICLES of A.E.C. manufacture are very popular ainonget, owners of motor omnibuses and chars-a-bance. The chassis are the result of many years' experience in catexing for the requirements of motor transport for passenger work, and it was from the A.E.C. factory that the whole of the London bus fleet emanated and where the new K type eliaseis are being manufactured for the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd.

The exhibits comprise a four ton Y.G. type chassis, fitted with a steel end. tipping 'body and single-rem hydraulic tipping gear ; a three ton Y.J. type passenger chassis, with a 28-seater char-abanes de luxe body and fitted with Michelin steel disc wheels shod with pneumatic tree, single on the front and twin on the rear. The K type is repre canted by two machines, one carrying a saloon omnibus body with a passenger capacity of 32, this also being provided with Michelin wheels and pneumatic tyres; the other with a lorry body with hinged detachable sides.

The Y type chassis (slight alterations in which, such as frame lengths and final drive gear ratios, being denoted by another letter after the I) has a pressed. steel channel-section. frame of unusual depth, well strengthened by channel-steel

cross members, from two of which the engine is suspended at three points, the attachment being at one point at the front and two at the rear. The power unit is four-cylindered, with the cYlinders cast in pairs and of the L-headed type. A particular feature of this engine is that the valves, magneto, carburetter, and centrifugal type governor are all situated at the near side, so that, if necessary, the drieer can be positioned alongside the engine as in the K type

chassis, without making any of the inaportant details inaccessible. The Zenith carburetter has a hot-water-jacketed inlet pipe, and the governor is adjustable from 12 m.p.h. to 17 m.p.h.

The clutch is of the external cone type, the rear end of the clutch shaft being splined and allowed to slide in one member of a Hardy fabric joint, of which two are provided for this shaft. Four speeds forward and a reverse are provided by the spur type gearbox, which is suspended from two straight cross members at three points. A propellet shaft with two ball-race type cardan joints conveys the drive to an overhead worm-driven rear axle.

The K type chassis has a flitch plate frame of wood and steel, in which the engine and gearbox are inclined so as to give a straight line to the underneath worm-driven rear axle, which is provided with a stout torque member. This chassis has a multiple-disc chit-eh and a three-speed gearbox of the silent chain type.
