DESIGNED to achieve minimum weight and lowest possible cost, a m all-metal bus body by Mulliners, Ltd., Bordesley Green Road, Birmingham 8, seats 34-36 passengers and costs C1,2104'1,220. The body is available in 7-ft. 6-in. or 8-ft. widths, and, based on Bedford SB-type chassis with an overall length of 28 ft. 9 ins., weighs 4.: tons unladen.
The body framing consists, in the main, of rolled-steel section, although certain aluminium members are incorporated when the light-alloy supply position permits, Exterior upper panelling is in aluminium, but exterior panelling up to the waist is in 20-gauge steel. Both welding and bolting are used in the assembly of the framing.
Tongued and grooved softwood flooring is used and the body is mounted on the chassis by means of U-bolts arid plates. Batata packing is employed betw_a the body and the chassis. Mudwings are steel and the panelling is jointed on the pillars to facilitate replacement. All 36 seats face forward, the tubular seat frames having rubber cushions and padded squabs. Upholstery is plastic leather-cloth in the standard finish.
A wide destination indicator is fitted above the full front, and the driver's half of the windscreen can be opened. Six sliding panels are fitted in the windows, three on each side. For good ventilation there are three extractor ventilators in the roof, and inlet aper

lures are built in each side of the front canopy. A jack-knife door 2 ft. 3 ins. wide on the near-side front gives access to the interior, a luggage space being provided in front of the door alongside the driver.
The prototype bus is undergoing tests on the experimental track of Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., and production of the vehicles has begun for the Admiralty
and Trinidad oil-refining companies. Alternative seating arrangements using slatted seats, a 12-in, gangway and permitting 15 ins, of seat width per passenger, have been designed, whereby the maximum toad may be 48 passengers.
A range of alternative and additional equipment is available to suit all conditions of operation, although the standard specification is comprehensive.
