it fiANUFACTURERS of motor IV" vehicles and equipment are, according to Mr. R. Gresham Cooke, director of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, up in arms at the proposal in the Transport Bill that they may not run their own lorries outside a 40-mile radius without a permit.
Many own works more than 40 miles apart, between which they run regular services. Equipment makers, in particular, send their products by road regularly in their own lorries for distanced of well over 40 miles, to meet day-to-day needs. Unless permits for such traffic were granted automatically. the motor industry would be brought to a stop. It is strongly urged that Parliament should specify these and similar cases for permits granted as of right. Evidence concerning this matter is being collected by the industry.
