and Mechanical Engineers held its annual dinner and entertainment at the Tudor Barn Cafe, Eltham, last Saturday, the chairman. Mr. J. W. E. Oakes, M.I.R.T.E., presiding.

The toast of the Association was given by Mr. G. Mackenzie Junner, F.R.S.A., M.I.R.T.E,, president of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers, with which the Association is closely linked, many of those present belonging to both bodies. He described the municipal transport engineer as being virtually a "maid of all work," dealing with everything from a mouse trap to a steam roller, and he congratulated the Association on the progress that had been made.

Mr. Oakes responded and mentioned that the membership, which had hitherto been mainly in the Metropolitan and

immediately surrounding areas, was spreading to the provinces, but it had to be quality rather than quantity, as few people in each municipality were eligible for membership.
