DEVON'S first bulk milk collection scheme
starts in March next year when Hammett's Dairies, Exeter, will be supplied with 4,000 gal. of milk a day from about 40 bulk farm vats. In June it is hoped to increase Hammett's bulk supplies to about 8,000 gal. a day. By then 80 producers should have farm vats installed. Milk producers supplying the dairy will all be in the Exeter area.
Mr. Timson, Milk Board Regional Marketing Officer, said: "Devon is a county of widely scattered small farms which makes bulk collection extremely difficult. So this scheme represents real progress. We hope that other dairies will be encouraged by Hammett's example."
