THE recent a,g.m. of the car transporters' 'THE
of the RHA was the occasion for some serious re-thinking on the relationship between the car transporter industry and the RHA. There is a body of opinion which now considers the labour relations aspect of the group to be of much less importance to car transporters in the light of the Scamp recommendations.
In particular, the link with the RHA obviously must be seriously affected by the Scamp recommendation concerning the establishment of a NJIC for the car transporter industry and the proposal in the Report for the setting up of consultative machinery which would embrace not only car delivery agents and the relevant ' unions but also the motor manufacturers, British Railways and British Road Services.
As the primary object of the establishment of the functional group was to co-ordinate labour relations in the industry, the Scamp Report goes right to the basic reason for the existence of the group. It is understood that already the car transporters are reverting to their previous practice of operating completely independently of the RHA in labour matters on the basis of the various local delivery agents associations.
