SIX Bedford platform lorries on A licence were taken over last Saturday by Hutchings Haulage, Station Garage, Four Marks, Alton, Hants, from the Bentley base of the Wincanton Transport and Engineering Co„ Ltd.
Hutchings Haulage have purchased the goodwill of the haulage business conducted from Bentley by Wincanton Transport. The work includes the haulage of general and agricultural goods and the collection of milk for the Milk Marketing Board.
Mr. John Hutchings told The Commercial Motor on Tuesday that all the drivers had transferred with the vehicles. His foreman. Mr. E. C. R. Kellie. had been appointed transport manager.
On April 6, Hutchings Haulage will merge with Wincanton Transport's Bentley Garage to become Auto Transport and Engineering Co., Ltd.. the formation of which was reported in The Commercial Motor on February 20.
A new garage and works has been completed at Four Marks, and office accommodation is under construction. Hutchings' fleet now comprises 16 vehicles. Increasing use is to be made of articulated outfits.
Distribution from store is now being undertaken in Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and other parts of the southern counties. The warehouse is served by both road and rail.
Wincanton Transport have retained the Bentley premises, which, it is understood, are to be used for the production ef glass-fibre mouldings. The company are well established in the field of plastics bodywork.
