1948, ' vehicles of the Central African Im Unit have covered 280,000 miles Rhodesia's mainly corrugated dust mud roads. Running costs are esti ited at 7.38d. a mile. • This low cost; says a report on the it's activities, reflects the care taken by all drivers of their vehicles arid, " is almost certainly to some extent the fruit of the permanent allocation of vehicles to individuals." = Repairs have been chiefly made by commercial garages. In estimating costs, 20 per cent. a year depreciation has been allowed on the four vehicles in use.
Thc• vehicles are a Chevrolet, two Ford 1-ton vans and a G.M.C. 15-cwt. All but one have run over 40,000 miles.
