REGULAR Saturday visits to sports matches were not " special occasions." This ruling was given by Sheriff A. M. Prain in Perth last week. Charges had been brought relating to the hire of vehicles by the Auchterarder branch of the Perth Panthers Supporters' Club and the Auchterarder Primrose Football Club.
It was alleged that the vehicles needed road service licences, but the defence claimed to the contrary because private parties were being carried on special occasions.
"In none of these present instances do I think there was a private party in the ordinary meaning of these words," said the Sheriff. "The Panthers Supporters' Club seemed to be an organized body, but membership was open to anyone paying a modest fee, and the use of the 'bus to travel from Auchterarder to Perth was about as open to the general public of Auchterarder as it could well be."
An appeal against the decision is to be lodged by A. and C. McLennan, LW.
