" rONSIDERABLE panic" arose
4.-••• when a Ministry of Transport inspector asked Rotherham Co-operative Society for driving records, and there was a feverish search, said the defending solicitor when the Society were fined a total of £150 at Rotherham. last week, for breaches of the law on driving hours and records.
During the search, added the solicitor. someone whose identity had not been established endeavoured to improve certain deficiences by manufacturing records in respect of one driver, who had stated that they were not his records and signature.
It was admitted that the case had revealed "a very sorry state of affairs," but an assurance was given that the Society had now taken the most stringent steps to ensure observance of the regulations.
