A CLAMP-DOWN on the amount of
fumes coming from petrol-driven vehicles was hinted at in the Commons last week by Mr. Tom Fraser, the Minister of Transport.
Until recently, he said, research indicated that existing means of controlling fumes were adequate. Recent reports, however, suggested that fumes from petrol-driven vehicles might raise problems in certain conditions. The matter was being studied further and the mote)] industry was investigating means al reducing carbon monoxide emission5 from these vehicles.
The Minister added that police enforcements and roadside checks by hit vehicle examiners, which resulted in prohibition notices where necessary were carried out to reduce the nuisance caused by smoke from diesel-engines vehicles.
