AHELICALLY sprung suspension system is disclosed in patent No. 580,065, by H. Herbert, 22, Broxholm Road, London, S.E.27. The scheme is claimed to be much more absorptive of road shocks than is the conventional leaf-spring layout.
The drawing shows the method applied to the rear axle of a vehicle. The axle casing has pivoted upon it two sets of S-shaped links (1), which are further pivoted to short links (2). The short links are themselves pivoted on the rear cross-member of the chassis, or other suitably arranged anchorage point.
Carded on the upper ends are two pressure pads (3), which engaged two sets of helical springs, one inside the other. The springs are attached to brackets (4), which contain a rightand left-handed screw (5) for adjusting the
initial loading of the springs. This screw may be turned by a spanner, or it can be provided with a remote control connected up for operating from the driver's seat.
The axles are positioned in a foreand-aft direction by pairs of rods (6). which are shackled to the frame in the manner of a leaf spring.
