r HE necessity to encourage the preparaL tion and dissemination of knowledge in information was particularly mentioned st night when Mr. E. B. H. Elsbury, tiring president of the Institute of Road ransport Engineers, presented the report
the Council to the 21st annual general eeting of the Institute before he introiced the incoming president Mr. William wallow.
Members of the Institute included many ading engineers and senior managers with wide knowledge of operating tankers and ppers and of the distributive trade, pserved Mr. Elsbury, and although the reparation of ,technical papers was timemsuming and tedious, members were chorted to take the trouble to publicize reir knowledge. "Will the gentlemen con!rned stop hiding their light under a ushel", pleaded Mr. Elsbury.
Referring to the first national conference F the Institute held in Birmingham in lay, Mr. Elsbury said that it had proved ie need for the Institute to have a national latform and for contributions from deleates both official and unofficial from all rades of membership, with discussions on urrent problems in the industry.
Referring to the Industrial Training Act ad the recently announced Training Board, Ir. Elsbury appealed to members to assist ollectively and individually in training rogrammes but emphasized that there was absolutely no substitute" for the encouragelent that could be given to trainees by a ood parental/employer/supervisor relationhip.
On taking the chair as president for 966/67, Mr. Swallow presented diplomas 3 Mr. H. D. Fawell for his paper on Opportunities in Road Transport" and 4r. A. J. Bryant for his paper on "Goods rehicle Maintenance".
