'FULL support for the working of the I West Midland Maintenanee Committee was promised by Mr. C. N Christensen, Midland divisional manager of British Road Services, and Mr, H. Q, Hudson, divisional engineer, when they attended the committee's quarterly meeting on Monday. Mr. Christensen and Mr. Hudson, or technical representatives of B,R.S., will attend all future meetings, it was stated. • Chairmanship of the committee will now be rotated annually between the Traders' Road Transport Association, Road Haulage Association and B.R.S. For the three years since the inception of the group, Mr. J. C. H. Aston, of Joseph Lucas, Ltd., a member of the T,R.T.A., has been chairman. Next year his place will be taken by a member of the R,H.A,. and the following year it will be the turn of B.R.S. A maintenance leaflet prepared by Mr. W. P. James, West Midland Licensing Authority, is now being circulated to all goods-vehicle operators in the area applying for licences or variations. Durine the next few days, a recommendation will be sent to operators on "The Causes and Cure of Vehicle Smoke." This is considered particularly opportune, as it follows the granting of greater powers to the police for prosecution in cases of smoky exhausts.
