ONE of the most interesting passenger vehicle orders to be placed on the opening day of the Commercial Motor Show was for four Guy Conquest buses. Unremarkable in terms of quantity, the order is exceptional in that it comes from Chemins de Fer Vicinaux—with 2,500 vehicles the largest bus fleet operators in Belgium. A nationalized concern, this company has never before bought British bus chassis.
The four Guys for Belgium are being bought for trial purposes and will have rearmounted Cummins V6 9.63-litre engines rated at 170 b.h.p., Daimatic semi-automatic transmission, and Metalastil rubber suspension. Single-deck bodywork will be of the semi-standee type, catering for up to 80 passengers, and built by Jonckheere. The order was obtained through Guy's Belgium distributors, Pans of Mechelen.
Guy have also broken important new export ground by obtaining an order for 40 Guy Arab Mk. V double-deck bus chassis for operation with East Pakistan Road Transport Corporation, Dacca. The buses will be fitted with Daimler Daimatic fourspeed semi-automatic transmission and AV505 engines, and will be supplied CKD. Order came through Guy's Karachi agents, International Automobiles.
