EIGHT special Leyland 53-seaters 1--+ have travelled over 2.000 miles from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, for delivery to Thatcher Hobson and Co., Ltd., Broken Hill, Northern Rhodesia.
Based on Steer six-wheeled chassis, a number of which is already in use by the company for goods haulage, the vehicles have bodywork by Bus Bodies (S.A.), Ltd.. and are 30 ft. long by 8 ft. wide. They are designed for native services. but can be converted for dualclass operation by the provision of a partition, there being both a front and a central entrance.
