THE WEIGHT of a large spare wheel
can make manhandling arduous if not impossible and patent No. 891,171 shows a carrier for easing the operation. (Hands (Letchworth), Ltd., New Icknield Way, Letchworth.) To the vehicle is attached an anglebracket shown above at I. Projecting from its underside is a tongue (2). To load a wheel. one side is lifted and the wheel flange (3) rested on the tongue, the other side (4) of the wheel remaining on the ground.
By pressing downwards on the lefthand side, the tongue is made to act as a fulcrum and lifts the right-hand side until the wheel flange clicks over a springloaded detent (5). This holds the wheel in place while a clamping bar and bolts (6) are applied for the •permanent fixing.
